The Metabolism is the rate at which your body's motor is running. The swiftness at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It is how fast your "motor" is running when you at rest or asleep.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body is always burning calories whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning or whatever. People with a smaller percentage of body fat will have a higher metabolism rate than those that are less muscular. Muscle uses more calories to sustain itself than fat. Some people naturally have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. When you are younger you have a higher metabolism rate because your cells are more active.
So now you can understand that the slower your metabolic rate, the more weight you will gain. What type of exercise is ideal to speed up your metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or sleep? Resistance training and walking will do wonders!
